Problems & emergencies

DON'T PANIC!

If your friend is unconscious, having trouble breathing, seriously confused or disorientated, this is an EMERGENCY and you should always send for medical help by calling 999.

For medical information you should visit our "EMERGENCY HELP" page.

problems
Sometimes people feel a bit too wierd after they've had a few drinks or taken some drugs.  Sometimes people get really sick and need medical help straight away.

It's important to know when you should do something to help, and what to do, as you could save someone's life.

Whatever happens, stay with your friend, stay calm and call for help if you need to.

If your friend feels tense or panicky:

  • Calm them down and reassure them that the way they feel is due to the drink or drugs and will soon pass.
  • Encourage them to breathe deeply and slowly.
  • Try and get them to sit somewhere quiet without any bright lights.

If they feel very sleepy:

  • Keep them awake by talking, or getting them to walk or talk
  • Do not give them coffee or alcohol.

With any drug, including alcohol, if a person is unconscious you should put them into the recovery position. And call 999 at the earliest opportunity (see our "EMERGENCY HELP" page)

ECSTASY TEEN LEFT TO DIE BY PARTYGOERS

A teenager who took a fatal dose of ecstasy was dragged from a house and left to die in the street by party-goers.
Kieran Lindsey was foaming at the mouth for more than three hours while revellers at an all-night bash danced around him.
The 18-year-old was eventually dragged into a nearby cul-de-sac and abandoned.

Ecstasy dead
Paramedics were later called to the scene but the kitchen fitter, of Crawley, West Sussex, was pronounced dead at hospital on Saturday morning.
Describing the people who left him to die as evil, his sister Adele said: 'They could have saved his life if they called an ambulance sooner.'
The 24-year-old added: 'He was jumping off the walls and burning like a radiator. A man at the party told everyone not to call an ambulance. They all just left him. I will never forgive them.'
Three men and two women, aged 18 to 25 and all from Crawley, have been arrested on suspicion of supplying a class A drug and freed on bail.
